In the bible, it tells the story of Jesus when he came to visit Mary and Martha in the city of Bethany, this story enlightens the heart. ( Luke 10:38)
In this story, it brings awareness to how communing with God is just as important as serving him.
When Jesus came to visit at the home of Martha, Mary her sister was there too ready to receive him. They both were eager in their own way to show Jesus their love for him. Martha showed her love for Jesus by making sure everything was in place even up to the time Jesus arrived. Martha continued to move about the home. She appeared to not take a break in the preparation of Jesus visit. When Mary was found at the foot of Jesus listening to Jesus, Martha was bothered by that. Instead of telling Mary come and help me prep and serve the food, she troubled Jesus with her complaint. Martha asked Jesus “dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.”
Both sisters are doing what was in their heart to do and both acts are equally important. But what mattered at that moment and Jesus made it clear, Mary chose to do what was needful for her “Mary had chosen that good part which shall not be taken away from her.”
Overall, what matters now is that in serving God, one should not neglect to commune with him and get to know him. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God shall man live.” (Matthew 4:4)
